Becoming a Resident

The Christian Inn’s Pittsburgh-based Margie House is a haven for female ex-inmates where growth, healing, and restoration can take place. The Christian Inn’s Cincinnati houses will have the same mission.

Where do residents come from?

In the past, prospective residents come to Cincinnati’s Esther House referred by pastors, chaplains, priests, social workers, and ministers. Women came from jail, drug detox centers, and dysfunctional living situations.

What are residents asked to do to heal?

Each resident voluntarily agrees to fully participate in a structured Bible-based program. A daily schedule provides opportunities to learn discipline through the life-changing power of the Holy Spirit. It is not a requirement that the prospective resident has a Christian background to partake of the services. Christian Inn Ministries works with women of all faiths and backgrounds.

How do I become a resident?

  1. Call the ministry number (Pittsburgh-Margie House: 412-231-1808 or Cincinnati: 513-476-8169), talk to a staff person.
  2. Have the interested woman write at least one page telling why she wants to come into the program, plus three to five goals for herself, short and long range. Mail or fax it to the Christian Inn.
  3. The ministry will then call or get in touch with the woman for a telephone or in-person interview.
  4. After the information is reviewed, the woman will be notified of acceptance.

What are the goals for each resident?

  • Develop a strong relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ
  • Learn the basic spiritual disciplines of Bible study and daily prayer
  • Reunite with their families
  • Obtain freedom from undesirable habits
  • Develop healthy friendships
  • Learn new job skills
  • Find suitable employment
  • Secure an acceptable living space
